Orquesta Típica Fresedo in the 1920's

We have to realize that the more important work for the musicians at that time was playing live at the clubs so as "Mar de la Plata" - much more precious (in terms of pay) than to record records. Acoustic records had in the early 1920's very bad condition and the playback was still with a very, very crappy sound - until 1926 finally the electric microphones came up. 

They earned their pay playing live.

If we read sources from the past, like the interview of Fresedo by Oscar Zucchi, the contemporary witnesses talk about the Orquestas, not so much about the people being present during the recording sessions. Same goes for the pictures that came to our days. They mirror the Orquestas at a certain moment in time. Until 1926/1927 it's very often not the same persons in the recording sessions, as in the official Orquestas playing live. Best known example is OT De Caro where in these days the first violin in the recordings was sometimes played by Julio De Caro himself and second by his brother Emilio. As listed everywhere and as shown in the fotos we have though more than half of the recordings were played differently: Julio being second violin and first violin played by Manlio Francia. Sideeffect was, that the tremendous play of Francia is often mistaken for Julio De Caro play who's name appears as 1st violin (...)

For OT Fresedo it's even more complicated as the musicians changed often plus they made a record company change in 1925. 

Clearly in this picture we find Juan Carlos Cobián, standing behind Fresedo in the upper picture. His last recording with this Orquesta as a piano player was on sep, 20th 1922. And on oct, 4th 1922 Rizzuti had already taken his seat in the following recording session. So this picture is taken previous of mid september 1922.

  5. Francisco Ortega (baritone saxophone)
  6. Leopoldo Thompson (doublebass)

Let's state that these 7 people were the members of the Orquesta Típica Fresedo in 1922 until september. Listening to the recordings we have, we can only turn to our ears and analyse what's possible to hear, which for the first time quite good today.
